Hearing Allyship with Deaf Communities
Welcome to the Hearing Allyship with Deaf Communities website! This platform showcases various resources focused on improving allyship between hearing and Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing communities. It's a culmination of extensive efforts aimed at increasing awareness, sharing valuable resources, and networking with organizations dedicated to this cause. We aim for this toolkit to be a first step for local community organizations to inform best practices for hearing participation in communinty-centered activities. We invite you to explore our work and learn how you can be a better ally to Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing people.

About Us!
Welcome to our Allyship Toolkit!

Who are we?
We are a group of hearing undergraduate ASL students studying at UPenn in Philadelphia. We are taking Deaf Culture, an advanced/conversational ASL class that explores several key topics related to Deaf Culture, such as the History of the Deaf American, Deaf Identit(ies), Communication Debates and Language Deprivation, Deaf Art, and Deaf-Space amongst more.

Why did we make this website?
This toolkit is designed to encourage allyship between hearing and Deaf communities by demystifying what that allyship entails. This website aims to be helpful for hearing people hoping to get involved in Deaf community events, as well as for hearing who are hoping to work with Deaf community members and organizations. While it focuses on resources in the Philadelphia region, the information provided here can be applied globally.

How did we collect our information?
The information here was collected through online research, firsthand experience gained through attending and hosting Deaf/ASL events, and interviews conducted with hearing ASL students as well as members of various professions and ages in Deaf communities. Each tool we developed was sent to our interviewees to ensure we accurately portrayed their message.
